Tuesday, December 22, 1942Farm Woman Dies At 58
Mrs. Nick Beukema Succumbs This Morning; Funeral Thursday
Mrs. Nick Beukema, 58, of near Newton, a patient at Skiff Memorial Hospital here for two weeks, died this morning at 8:15 o’clock. Mrs. Beukema, resident of Jasper County since early childhood, had been in ill health for the past five years, suffered a stroke about a year ago and was suffering from arteriosclerosis.
Funeral services will be held at the Murdock Funeral Home here Thursday afternoon, Dec. 24, at 3 o’clock.
Husband, Son Survive
Mrs. Beukema is survived by her husband and a son, Elmer Beukema, who operate adjoining farms northeast of Newton. She is also survived by three brothers, William L. and George Koppin of Newton; Fred Koppin of New York, N. Y. and three sisters, Mrs. Milo Snodgrass of Newton, Mrs. Mabel Finnegan of Osakis, Minn., and Mrs. Cleve Cassell of St. Paul, Minn.
Mrs. Beukema, the former Gusta (Auguste) Koppin, was the eldest of nine children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Koppin Sr. Born in Germany May 20, 1884, she was four years old when her parents came to the United States to make their home on a farm north of Kellogg in Mariposa township.
Married in ‘09
She married Nick Beukema in Newton Feb. 24, 1909, and the couple made their home on a farm four miles south of Baxter for a year, then moved to a farm five miles northwest of Newton in 1918. She became a member of the Lutheran church in childhood.
Besides her parents, a sister and a brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Axel Hansen, St. Paul, Minn., her sister, died last July 1, and her father, also of St. Paul, died seven days later.
