NEWTON, IA. - Larry W. Pierson Sr., 50, of Newton died of cancer Saturday at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallce-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with burial at Newton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Pierson was born in Ottumwa and lived in Newton for 15 years. He was retired from the shipping and receiving department of Maytag Co. and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; a son, Larry Jr. of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Christine Shipley of Newton; his mother, Roena Hornbeck of Ottumwa; two brothers, Gary of Newton and Don of Ottumwa; a sister, Marian Smith of Ottumwa; two stepsisters, Adelaine Marsh of Springfield, Mo., and Eleanor Martin of Yeats, Kan.; and one grandchild.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the tuneral home, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Jasper County.~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, December, 1990

Larry W. Pierson Sr., 50, of 201 E. 13th St. N, a resident of Newton for 15 years, died Saturday, December 1, at his home of cancer.

Few low services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple, will conduct services. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Lillian J.; a son, Larry W. Pierson Jr., of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Christine J. Shipley of Newton; and a grandson.

Also surviving are two brothers, Gary of Newton and Don Ottumwa; a sister, Marian (Mrs. Kermit) Smith of Ottumwa; two stepsisters, Adeline Marsh of Springfield, Mo., and Eleanor Martin of Yates Kans; and his mother, Rowena Hornbeck of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his father and step-father.

Mr. Pierson, a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, was employed at the Maytag Co. die casting department from 1958 to 1968 and in the shipping and receiving department and until retiring in 1989.

The son of LeRoy and Rowena "Champ" Hornbeck Pierson, he was born February 23, 1940 in Ottumwa and was educated in the Ottumwa schools.

He was married to Lillian J. Wilkins June 14, 1964 in Ottumwa. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1990
