Laura V. Poland

Laura Veniece Poland, 85, of 315 1st St. S., a resident of Newton since 1925, died this morning, May 20, at her home.

Funeral services are pending at Wallace-Pence funeral Home.

The Rev. George Cuff, pastor of the First Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Surviving is a sister, Tressie McCann of Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Archibald F. Poland, five sisters, Sylvia Spurrell, Goldie Poland, Cecile Ferguson, Eva Robinson and Mabel Poland; and a brother, Elvin Poland.

Miss Poland, a member of the First Assembly of God, had worked as a waitress n the Indianola Hotel prior to moving to Newton. After moving to Newton she was employed at Newton Manufacturing Co., at the Automatic Washer Co. during World War II and United Telephone Co., for 12 years.

The daughter of James William and Etta May Dillon Poland, she was born Sept. 16, 1905 in Indianola and was graduated from Indianola Community High School.
