COLFAX - Dr. Richard Hamilton Baum, 66, of Colfax died Monday, Oct. 17, in Des Moines General Hospital of Complications of Lymphoma.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mitchellville First Congregational United Church of Christ and at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at 11613 Fall Ave., Colfax.

Survivors are his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Dr. David H. of Postville and Richarad L. of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Kathryn L. Baum of Corvallis, Ore.; and Karen E. Fosse of Iowa City; a step-son, Dr. Clinton Douglas Korver of Menlo Park, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Juliana B. Korver of Ames; five grandchildren; his father and step-mother, Don and Jenny Baum of Cape Coral, Fla.; and a sister, Marilu Baum of Bensalem, Pa.

Dr. Baum practiced veterinary medicine in Osage, Union, Waukon, St. Ansgar, Rockford and Nora Spring and was an Extension Veterinarian in poultry husbandry at Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind., prior to retiring two years ago.

In June he was graduated with the first Lay Education for Adults in Religion for the Nineties class, an ecumenical three-year training program to enable lay church leaders to take leadership roles in their church. He was serving the Mitchellville First Congregational United Church of Christ as a lay pastor.

Dr. Baum served as a Boy Scout leader for 17 years, was past president of the Rockford Lions Club, served on the Mitchell County Conservatin Board, was a charter member of the North Iowa Rural Area Development Board of Directors, served on the Rockford City Council and was active in many state and locatl organizations.

Dr. Baum, who served in the Airborne Infantry as a medic, served on the National United Church Board for Homeland Ministries, was the state moderator for the Iowa United Church of Christ Conference, was chairperson for the conference board of directors and held offices in the Conference Association and local churches.

He was born Sept. 15, 1928 in Chicago, Ill. and was a 1946 of Ridgewood (N.J.) High School and received his degree in veterinary medicine in 1955 from Iowa State University in Ames.
