Alia E. Pierce, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Pierce, was born in Round County, Kentucky December 9, 1846 and died at Elk River, Minnesota January 6, 1926 At the age of 79 years and 28 days.

She was married to David C. Underwood September 15, 1863 and had four children - Henry C. Underwood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Grant Underwood of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mrs. Lillian Haynes, Newkirk, Oklahoma, Mrs. Laura Van Slyke, Elk River, Minnesota.

The family, after living in Kentucky about 12 years, moved to Prairie City and resided in the near vicinity until after her husband’s death on August 10, 1924.

She then went to Newkirk, Oklahoma with her daughter, Mrs. Haynes and 9 months later to Elk River, Minnesota to visit her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Van Slyke, where she passed away.

Surviving are her four children and five great grandchildren.

Burial at Waveland Cemetery.
