Mary Elizabeth Shorten was born in Grinnell, Iowa July 14, 1864 and died at died at her home at Prairie City April 27, 1926 at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 13 days.

She moved with her parents to a farm two miles northeast of Prairie City in 1869 where she grew to womanhood.

In 1887 she was married to J. P. Stoner.

Eight children - all of whom are living except one daughter, Rosa Mae, who preceded her in death eighteen years.

Surviving are her husband, one sister, Margaret Graham of Winter, Saskatchewan, Canada, and seven children - Clifton Edward, Harold Franklin, John Wylie, Nellie Grace, William Jennings, Joe Thomas and Laura Beatrice, all of Prairie City; also ten grandchildren.
