Ellen Callender was born near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1842 and died July 15, 1925.

There were 13 children in her father’s family. One sister remains, Mrs. Katherine Gatewood of Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

Ellen married John Stineman, September 29, 1870. He died November 21, 1873.

Two children – Emory Dean Stineman of Runnells, Iowa and Mrs. Anna Libolt of Colfax.

She was again married to John E. Smith October 2, 1879. He died in September, 1891.

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1854.
