Obituaries 1920-1940 taken from the files of the Prairie City News, Prairie City, Iowa, page 26.

Joseph B. Stoner was born October 13, 1832, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He died at the home of his nephew, Frank Stoner, of Mt. Morris, Ill. on April 13, 1924.

Married Rebecca Harwood on August 25, 1859.

Eight children, three died in infancy. His son Royal, died in 1902, age 28 years, and daughter, Mrs. Flora Canode died in 1903, age 37 years.

Came to the Prairie City area in 1869 and settled just north of this place.

His wife died on January 14, 1877, leaving five children, the youngest only 2 years old.

In 1884, he married Mrs. Stallcup. She died 6 years ago. Survived by one sister, Mrs. Isaac Thomas, Of Columbus Junction. She is the only surviving member of a family of twelve children. He leaves one daughter and two sons - Mrs. J. L. Green, of Morning Sun; James P. Stoner, of Prairie City; and Thomas Stoner, of Des Moines.

Burial in the Westview Cemetery.
