Margaret Ann Butters, daughter of Nimron and Miranda Conaway, was born Sept. 10, 1831, in Frederick County, Maryland.
In her early childhood, she moved with her parents to Ohio, near Sinking Springs. Her mother died in 1831, leaving her, one brother, and a sister.
Her father married the second time and to this union were born ten children. Eight are living - N. J. Conaway, of Dodge City; Mrs. Lizzie Wiley, of Dunlap, Kansas; Mrs. Sarah Cobbler; Mrs. Susan Belleson; Mrs. Rebecca Hughes; Mrs. Mary Turley; Shannon and Jacob, all of Ohio.
Margaret was married to Samuel Butters on April 1, 1852, in Ohio. They moved to Prairie City in 1856. Her husband died in October, 1894.
She was the mother of ten children - One died in infancy. Living are J. W. Butters, of Long Beach; Cal., R. N. Butters and Mrs. Emma Kingdon, both of Prairie City; F. L. Butters, of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Anna Upp, of Klamath Falls, Ore. , George, Kate, Amanda, and Ira have preceded their mother in death.
Burial in the Westview Cemetery.
