Richard Charls was born in County Meath, Ireland, September 10, 1839 and died at his home near Prairie City June 30, 1924.

He came to America landing in New York on April 13, 1861.

On Apri1, 30, 1874 he married Isabel Hedge.

Seven children. The wife died October 11, 1916. The children are - George W., Mrs. Blanche Waddle, Violet 0., Mrs. Bert Young, William S., Elsie S., and Maida Belle, all of Prairie City. One sister, Mrs. Matilda Dickenson of Prairie City and one brother, W. T. Charls of Kirwin, Kansas.

Burial in Westview Cemetery.
