John Holy was born near Oskaloosa on February 27, 1856 and died at Vandalia on May 6, 1924. He was left fatherless at the age of 13 years.

On March 4, 1884, he married Mary T. Gulling.

Four children - Mrs. Nellie Trader of Runnells, Thomas C. of Iowa City, Mrs. Hazel English of Runnells, Russell A. of Springdale.

Burial in Vandalia Cemetery.
