A sad affair occurred last Thursday, a short distance south of Laurel. Alfred Bloom's boy, aged about 12 years, was cutting corn. In some accidental way, presumably, while cutting the twine that went around the shock, the edged side of the cutter struck the wrist, severing a blood vessel. Before the excessive flow of blood could be stopped, the unfortunate boy bled to death. ~The Newton (IA) Journal, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 1894
