Obituary: Maurice Leonard Woody
Maurice Leonard Woody, 75 of 608 E 13th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1950 and a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning, March 9, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foursquare Church. The Rev. James Black, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the Foursquare Church will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Aletha L.; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard L. and Becky Woody of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois L. and Glenn Shunk of Newton, Leona M. and John Metz of Stewardstown, PA.; and LaVonne E. and Dan Perkins of Newton; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Ardelle Woody of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Oakley, Hershel, Neil and Rex. Mr. Woody, a member of the Foursquare Church and United Auto Workers, Local 997, had been an assembler at the Parsons Co., in Newton.
The son of Harry and Maude Danks Woody, he was born Dec 2, 1916 in rural Monroe and attended rural schools. He was married to Aletha Walker Oct 3 1942 in Prirnceton, Mo. ~ Newton Daily News. March 9, 1992
