The Newton (IA) Journal, Wednesday, May 9, 1894

KILLED AT COLFAX - Sunday afternoon, at 1:50, Alexis Heritier, a Swiss, 25 years old, was killed. He was a member of Kelly's army but had become tired of loafing around, so purchased a ticket over the Rock Island for the east and boarded the passenger train, No. 3. When Colfax was called, the man got up from his seat and went to the platform of the car. Just as his car came to the depot platform, he jumped off, but missed his calculation and was drawn under the cars, where both his legs were cut off. Later, he died from his injuries.
