Walter Koppin dies Wednesday; services are Friday

Newton – Walter Koppin, 88, of Rt. 1, Newton, a longtime Jasper County area farmer, died Wednesday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Logan, pastor of the Zoar Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to St. John’s Cemetery will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife Minnie; and three sisters, Mrs. Claire (Goldie) Schnell of Lynnville, Mrs. Gladys Birchard of Hillsboro, Ore., and Mrs. Esther Lincoln of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Clara Allen, Bertha Brooks, Rose Koppin, and Elsie Hutchinson, and a brother, Glen.

Mr. Koppin, a veteran of World War I, was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

The son of Charles and Lena Brune Koppin, he was born Jan. 10, 1895 near Newton.

He was married to Minnie Hulda Eilert Feb. 16, 1927 in Newton.
