Newton (IA) Daily News - Tuesday, August 24, 1965

Joe E. Wilson, 80, of 1020 First Ave. E., a resident of the Newton vicinity most of his life, died this morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Toland Funeral Home. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson will lie in state at Toland Funeral Home where friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Survivors are two sons, Glen C. Wilson and Ray W. Wilson, both of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Ruthe) Clark of Grinnell; a granddaughter, Betty Wilson of Newton and a great-granddaughter, Karen Wilson of Newton.

Mr. Wilson was married to Floy Koger in 1913 and three children, Glen, Ray and Ruthe, were born to this couple, Mrs. Floy Wilson died in 1920.

In 1925, he was married to Jessie K. Hanson whose son, Wesley W. Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa., also survives. Mrs. Jessie Wilson died in 1959.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Mr. Wilson, who farmed during his early life, operated a motel on the east edge of Newton.
The son of Joseph and Deborah Cooper Wilson he was born Oct. 11, 1884 in Poweshiek County.
