DIED – On Saturday, July 15, 1893, at his home, of stomach trouble, Mr. Patrick Welch, in the 72nd year of his age.

Mr. Patrick Welch was born in Ireland, March 9th, 1828, and first came to this country when 7 years of age, but returned to Ireland soon after. When he was 15 years old he again came to American and settled in Pennsylvania and stayed there until about 1870, when he became a resident of this county. During his stay in Pennsylvania he enlisted in the service for three years and did duty for his country.

For some years past he has been ailing, but nothing serious was anticipated until about six weeks ago when he was taken considerably worse. The services were held in the U. P. Church in Palo Alto township and the remains interred in the Wild Cat Cemetery. Rev. E. C. Brooks had charge of the funeral services.

The deceased leaves a wife, five daughters and three sons to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent father and husband . ~ The Newton (IA) Journal, July 19, 1893.
