DIED – At his home, in West Newton, on Thursday, July 13, 1893, Mr. John X. Davis, in the 72nd year of his age.

The deceased was born in Carmentbenshire, South Wales, in August, 1821, the son of David and Elizabeth Davis, and was of a family of nine children – two of whom survive him.

While a young man he went to Cray Breenshire to work at his trade and there married and moved to Hirwaen and from there came to America in 1856. He was at that time a follower of the Mormon faith, but tired of the polygamous habits and left the train, then on their way to Utah, at this place, and ever since has been a useful and respected citizen of this community. His wife died in 1891, and some weeks ago he went to Kansas to make a visit and returned very sick, from which he never recovered. The remains were interred in the Newton Cemetery on last Sunday. ~ The Newton Journal, July 19, 1893.
