OBITUARY. – It brought sorrow to many of our people when Tuesday morning the word was passed around that W. C. Parvin had passed from this world at 6:30 o’clock that morning. He has long been in poor health, but his death was not looked for so suddenly. He was born in New York city, January, 1828, and lived for a number of years during his early life in Philadelphia. When he was about 18 he became an apprentice in a wholesale drug firm in New York City. H continued in the drug business for many years. His failing health led him to come West. He made several trips to Minnesota and then to Iowa. The purchase of a piece of land from a friend, led him to make a visit to Newton; he was so pleased with the country here, that he decided to make this place his home, and he has been a resident of Newton since June, 1879. He was married to Mrs. Parvin in June, 1875, in Brooklyn, N. Y. She and her sister were teachers, and had a young ladies seminary at Middletown N. Y. Their first house keeping was when they came to Newton. Their two children Edith and Charley, were born in Middletown, N. Y. Mr. Parvin has one brother and one sister, both of whom were here on a visit this last summer. His parents were Quakers and he always had a cordial sympathy with that church. He was a most faithful and useful member of the Congregational church of this city. For years he has been a member of the Board of Trustees, and to his business methods the church is greatly indebted for its prosperity. He will always be remembered by the church with affection and appreciation. He was fully resigned when the time of his departure came, and said to his pastor that he left the world with kind feeling for everybody and in the faith and hope of the Christian. The funeral services will be held in the Congregational church at two o’clock on Thursday. ~ The Newton Journal, Nov. 15, 1893.
