DIED – At Des Moines, October 2nd, 1893, of consumption, Mrs. Emily Linn, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. G. Work.

Deceased was born in Newton, Oct. 21, 1865, and where she grew to womanhood. Removing with her parents to Des Moines, she was married to Dr. A. M. Linn, May 3, 1887. She had been a great sufferer, and death was a release from pain and anguish of body. Everything possible was done for her that medical skill and loving friends could suggest, but in vain. The “News” says;

It is fitting that in the quiet, peaceful hours of the night, when the soft mantle of silence enwrapped the earth, that the king’s messenger should come to the release of the patient sufferer. His coming had been awaited, not with trembling, but with faith and resignation sublime and beautiful. Nothing could be more cheering nor sweetly heroic than the manner in which this young wife and daughter, whose life was so precious to her friends, bade them a tender farewell. “Goodbye dear, precious mother, we shall meet again” were almost her last words, breathed in response to a wish that she might speak once more. The joyful thought of a blessed reunion made her last days happy and triumphant. On Saturday she bade good-bye to many friends with loving words expressive of fervent hope for the future. To many she gave some little keepsake. To her Grandfather McFarland she sent her napkin ring and a lovely rosebud. To others beautiful flowers were sent with many comforting messages. She had expressed the hope that she might go on Sunday and her desire was almost realized for the night had but turned when the call came. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, Revs. Sooy and Frisbie officiating. ~ The Newton Journal, Wednesday, October 4, 1893.
