DIED, KERR. – At the residence of her parents, N. A. Rawlings, four miles south of Newton, of consumption, on Thursday, August 10, 1893, Mrs. Alice, wife of Thomas Kerr, aged 34 years, 9 months, 3 days.
Florinda Alice Rawlings was born in Newton, Nov. 2nd, 1858; was converted to Christianity about twenty years ago, uniting with the M. E. Church. She was married to Thomas Kerr, Feb. 8th, 1885, since which time her home has been at Monroe. The fruits of this marriage were twin boys, aged 5, who, with the father, are thus early robbed by death of her who makes home life most dear. She was taken ill early in the spring, since which time she has been a great sufferer, sinking slowly to the grave. In the early stage of her sickness she was taken to her parent’s home in the hop that a mother’s care might arrest the impeding dissolution, but the disease had too firm a hold.
The funeral took place from the family residence at 10 a.m., August 12th, Rev. Wilson Mills, pastor of the Baptist church at Monroe, conducting the services. His address to the sorrowing relatives was full of comfort that faith in the Redeemer’s word alone can give. The obsequies were attended by a large congregation of relatives and friends. Interment was made in Union Cemetery.
The family have the sympathy of the community. ~ The Newton (IA) Journal, Wednesday, August 16, 1893.
