Kermit Dewayne Terry, 54, of Newton died Thursday, June 29, 2006, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ernie Cramer of Missouri officiating. Burial will be at a later date. His body was cremated.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be present. Memorials will be accepted in his name or to DebRA of America Inc., 5 West 36th St., Room 404, New York, N.Y. 10018.

The son of Gradey and Zelma (Harrison) Terry, he was born Aug. 3, 1951, in Missouri. He graduated from high school in Trenton, Mo. On June 15, 1984, he married Mary Hanson in Colfax.

He worked 22 years for Progress Industries in Newton and retired June 21. He received several awards from Progress Industries, including Client of the Year in 1986 and Staff of the Year in 1989.

He enjoyed his family, fishing, camping, boating, bird watching and sight-seeing. He also enjoyed his three Chihuahuas, Dimples, Pebbles and Lisa. He was a historian on Recessive Dystrophic Epedermolysis Bullosa disease (RDEB, of which he died from).

Survivors include his wife; mother of Trenton, Mo.; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Lonnie Keith and Rita Terry of Jamesport, Mo., Larrie and Lita Terry of Gilman City, Mo., and Stevie Terry of Missouri; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy (his twin sister) and Gerald Chambers of Independence, Mo., Gale and Roger Pettit of Trenton, Mo., Susan and Gary Eads of Spickard, Mo., Beverly and Michael Ford of Sparta, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Laura Hanson of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a great-nephew.
