GRINNELL -- Gilbert L. Taylor, 95, of Grinnell died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

A funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Elder Harold Taylor, pastor of the Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church in Milan, Mo., officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Kellogg.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Monday, and the family will be present one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Kellogg Historical Society or to Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church in Milan.

The son of L.G. "Tony" and Dona (Straley) Taylor, he was born April 26, 1911, in Milan, Mo. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school as well as Brookfield, Mo., high school. On Aug. 16, 1933, he married Mary M. Waldbusser in Newton. The couple farmed near Milan until 1936, when they moved to a farm in the Rock Creek neighborhood near Kellogg. In 1966, they retired from farming and moved into Grinnell.

Mr. Taylor was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau and Victor Grange. He served as a 4-H leader and a member of the Rock Creek District #5 school board. He collected agricultural antiques for many years and donated most of his collection to the Kellogg Historical Museum. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, John Taylor of Newton and Jim Taylor of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Porter Taylor of Holyoke, Mass., and Tom Taylor of Kirksville, Mo.; and four sisters, Cynthia Belles of Chicago, Anna Mae Featheringill of Fort Madison, Edna Fern Caudron of Ottumwa and Emily Hoefert of Kamrar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Janice Larkin; and six brothers, Wiley, Raleigh, Lewis Jr., Clarence, Grover and Lloyd Taylor.
