Randy S. Merrick, 43, of Newton died Monday, May 22, 2006, at his home.

A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a coffee time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his name. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Rudy Espanosa and Elaine Griffey, he was born Oct. 30, 1962, in Santa Ana, Calif. He graduated from Story City High School in 1981. On Oct. 19, 1996, he married Lisa L. White in Colfax. He worked for Firestone for more than 11 years as a tire builder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and scouting with his son. He was an avid reader. He lived in Cambridge for seven years prior to moving to Newton in August 2005.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerod Merrick of Newton; a daughter, Michele Merrick of Des Moines; his foster parents, Wendell and Darlene Patterson of Story City; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Margaret Cobbs; and two brothers, Bob Bailey of Nebraska and Rick Merrick of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
