MARSHALLTOWN -- Tom McKenzie, 61, of Marshalltown, formerly of Baxter, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.

The son of Dr. Kenneth and Madeline (Couch) McKenzie, he was born July 30, 1944, in Leavenworth, Kan. He graduated as class president from Baxter High School in 1962 and was active in school athletics. In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an air policeman until 1966. He was employed in new car sales for 33 years. He had resided in Atlanta, Ga., until moving to central Iowa and most recently the Iowa Veterans Home in January 2006.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Lisa McKenzie of Ankeny; two daughters, Michelle Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa Lawrence of Des Moines; a brother, Jim of Ohio; and a sister, Kay Colburg, of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant child.

MARSHALLTOWN -- Tom McKenzie, 61, of Marshalltown, formerly of Baxter, died Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2006, at the Iowa Veterans Home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, at the Congregational Church in Baxter. There will be no visitation. A luncheon will follow the services at the church. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is handling arrangements.
