LYNNIVLLE -- Gerald R. Beason, 85, of Lynnville died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Friendship Manor Care Center in Grinnell.

A funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lynnville Friends Church with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Lynnville.
Visitation with the family present will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and continue until service time. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Manor Care Center in Grinnell. Harden Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

The son of Sam and Edna (Kershner) Beason, he was born July 19, 1921, in Lynnville. He graduated from Lynnville High School in 1939. He served for three years in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On May 1, 1947, he married Vera Ratcliff at the Lynnville Friends Church. They lived in Pella for a few years and returned to Lynnville in 1954.

Mr. Beason worked for the Pella Telephone Company, the Lynnville Farm & Home Store, the Sully Co-op Creamery, Green Colonial Heating & Cooling, Lennox and William Penn University. He was former ham radio operator and enjoyed computers.

He is survived by his wife Vera; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kim Beason of Urbandale; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ron Litwiller of Albany, Ore.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leland, and a sister, Lena.
