ALHAMBRA, Calif. -- Florence Hotger Danforth, 79, of Alhambra, Calif., a former resident of Newton, died Sunday, March 4, in San Gabriel Community Hospital in San Gabriel, Calif.

Graveside rites will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Zoar Reformed Church, north of Newton.

Memorials to the Zoar Historical Society may be sent to Frank Danforth, 304 Storey Place, Alhambra, Calif.

Survivors are her husband, Frank; a daughter, Tanya Kay, of Alhambra, Calif.; four sisters, Ruby (Mrs. George) Reuter of Costa Mesa, Calif., Norma Miller of Newton, Marie (Mrs. Russell) Powell of Des Moines and Irene (Mrs. Clifton) Zickel of Laurel; and a brother, Clarence Hotger of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Lloyd, Roy and Glen; and two half-sisters, Gladys and Anna.

Mrs. Danforth, a former member of the Zoar Reformed Church, north of Newton, was an active member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary and had worked with the youth group of the United Presbyterian Church in the Alhambra area.

Mrs. Danforth had taught for a number of years in Jasper County rural schools.

The daughter of Frederick and Mary Stoltzman Hotger, she was born March 24, 1910 at the family farm home. She was educated at Malaka School and was a 1927 graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was married to Frank Danforth Sept. 20, 1940 in Colfax.
