MURPHY, Iowa, Jan. 23d. 1893.
DIED. - Mrs. L. A. Spellman, wife of Rowley Spellman died Wednesday, Jan. 18th, 1893. She was sick only four days but she had previously been troubled with asthma and a return of the disease was the first intimation of seriousness. Mrs. Spellman was born in Vermont, Dec. 15th, 1821, moved with her husband to Ohio, then to Iowa in 1858, since then with exception of a short stay in Marion County, they have lived at their present home.
At the age of twenty-two she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Alexandria, Ohio; she lived a consistent christian life. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind and sypathizing neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew her.
A husband and three daughters mourn her departrue, yet not with that sadness which knows no brighter awakening.
Funeral services were held at the house Thursday, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Slagle cemetery. ~ The Newton Journal. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1893
