Billy James Koopman, 49, of Newton died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his home.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
A visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of the service. Memorials will be accepted in his name.
The son of Keith James and Anne J. (Ahrweller) Koopman, he was born June 10, 1957, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1975. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked for Hendrickson Greenhouse in Newton for eight years, for Iowa Liquor Store in Newton for 10 years and for Progress Industries in Newton. He enjoyed people, Ford cars and classic cars. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, where he was baptized July 21, 1957.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Charles A. "Chuck" and Cindy Koopman of Newton; two nephews; an aunt; and two cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
