John Edward Illingworth, 74, of Newton, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Doug Cupples officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be accepted in his name or to Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of Ben E. and Martha Sophia (Brue) Illingworth, he was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Newton. He attended Newton schools and lived in Newton most of his life. He married Janet Davidson. On March 29, 1997, he married Colleen (Grant) Lynn in Newton.

Mr. Illingworth served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1960 and during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 and a life member of V.F.W. Post 1655, both in Newton. He was a truck driver for Mid-Seven Inc. and retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, watching Western movies, bird watching and liked Ford cars.

Survivors include his wife Colleen of Newton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Darlene Illingworth of Newton; four steps sons, Ralph Jimenez of Ormond Beach, Fla., Jerry Jimenez of Hong Kong, China, Tom Jimenez of Oskaloosa and Russell Jimenez of Summerville, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Meyer of Ankeny; two brothers, Fred and Mary Lou Illingworth of Russell, and Greg "Rocky" and Karen Illingworth of Newton; one half brother, Ted Illingworth of Newton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ella and Leonard Savage of Newton and Betty Bowen of Newton; one half sister, Benna Howe of Killduff; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet; two sons, Jeff Illingworth and John W. Illingworth; and one sister in infancy, Marlene Illingworth.
