PRAIRIE CITY — Harry Taylor Young, 97, of Prairie City died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. Burial will be at Griffis Cemetery.

Visitation is planned Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. There will be no family time. Memorials may be given to the Griffis Cemetery Foundation.

The son of Samuel Albert and Beatrice Barbara Charls Young, he was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Jasper County. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1928. A lifetime resident of the area, he farmed his entire life. He loved to attend livestock auctions, where he met many lifelong friends. He also was proud of his Aberdeen Angus herd of cattle.

He is survived by a sister, Millie Meckley, nine nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Howard Young; two sisters, Ruth Taylor and Geneva Wallace; and a niece and nephew.
