CASCADE, Colo. — Charles Robert "Bob" Piper, 61, of Cascade, Colo., formerly of Newton, died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Feb. 7, 2006, in Cascade.

A Celebration of Life service was held at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont. For those desiring, memorials may be made to ALS Association.

The son of Charles and Inez Kepler Piper, he was born July 25, 1944, in Ottumwa. He graduated from Fremont High School. He worked for Newton Daily News in the advertising department prior to moving to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1974. He worked in media sales for more than 30 years, including the Gazette Telegraph, KRDO and KKTV. He enjoyed taking his friends and family on trips in his RV, watching NASCAR, collecting classic muscle cars, woodworking, backpacking and four-wheeling.

Survivors include his mother, Inez Bender of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Frances "Kay" Stull of San Antonio, Texas, and Patty Piper of Mount Pleasant; half-brother, Tom Piper of Winfield; half-sister, Lisa Piper of Winfield; a step-brother, Carl Crill of Riverside, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
