Bertha Kingma Vande Weerd, 87, of 2101 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1923, died this morning, Nov. 7, at the Embassy Manor following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God.
The Rev. Harold Shutte, pastor of the Oskaloosa Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after noon Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the First Assembly of God in Newton may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are two daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Emil) Gerard and Marie (Mrs. Dan) Hardenbrook, both of Newton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hendrika De Greef of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Brunis, in 1973, a grandson in infancy, six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Vande Weerd, a homemaker, was a member of the First Assembly of God and the Oak Ridge Homemakers.
The daughter of John and Elizabeth Pot Kingma, she was born Feb. 24, 1902 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, and attended elementary school in The Netherlands.
She was married to Brunis Vande Weerd Feb. 24, 1925 in Lynnville.
