Edna Van Steenbergen

PRAIRIE CITY -- Edna Borene Van Steenbergen, 87, of Prairie City, a longtime resident of Prairie City, died Monday, Feb. 20, in the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Prairie City United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Al Kinrade, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

Memorials to the Prairie City Library or Hillcrest Family Services Baby Fold may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Waldo) Frankenstein of Bellevue, Mich., and Mona (Mrs. Robert) Campbell of Waukon; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isa (Mrs. B. H.) Cloud of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and husband.

Mrs. Van Steenbergen was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church and was active in the church’s Sunday school and women’s organizations.

She served as a district secretary and chairperson of the Iowa Conference of Methodist Women.

Mrs. Van Steenbergen was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, PEO Sisterhood and the Prairie City Senior Citizens.

The daughter of Frederick and Louisa Carlson Borene, she was born July 3, 1901 in Silver City and was a 1919 graduate of Malvern High School.

She attended Morningside College in Sioux City and taught in Mills County, Sioux Center and Red Oak schools.

She was married to John Van Steenburgen Nov. 5, 1924.
