Minnie VanOstrum Sabin, 96, of Sidney, NE., formerly of Newton, IA died Sunday evening, Aug. 19, 2001 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Aug. 22 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Davis officating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Minnie Sabin, daughter of Aire and Cora (Engle) VanOstrum was born Nov. 24, 1904 at Durhan, IA. She grew up and attended school in Pella, IA. As a young girl she worked for the Rollscreen Company that later became Pella Window Company.

On June 19, 1929 she was united in marriage to Leslie C. Sabin at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived in Newton, IA until 1945 when they moved to Sidney where her husband ran a Maytag Store before buying the Standard Service Station.

Minnie was a member of the Methodist Church for nearly 60 years; was a member of the Rebekah Lodge where she was twice Noble Grand and a member of the Extension Club, both for over 40 years, and she was a member of the Church Circle. She also belonged to card clubs and social groups.

Survivors include one son, Donald Sabin of Sidney; two sisters, Marge Schippers of Pella, IA and Tena Dixson of Stanberry, MO; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband in 1983 and one daughter, Judy Barnhill.
