Phyllis A. Peiffer, 69, of Newton died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of Phillip and Pauline Taylor Shaffer, she was born March 19, 1936, in Mt. Zion. On Jan. 7, 1956, she married Delbert B. Peiffer in Sigourney and was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, a member of the Democratic Party and was a past president of PTA. She lived in Mt. Zion, Sigourney and Newton. She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, camping, music and dancing.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Randy Peiffer of Grimes; three daughters, Vicki Carter, Tammy Peiffer and Sharon (Rick) Mabie, all of Newton; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Phillip Shaffer, and a sister, Pauline Kracht.
