CHARITON — Bessie L. Logan, 96, of Chariton, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Lucas County Health Care in Osceola.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tim Johnson, interim pastor of First Christian Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from noon to 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Salvation Army or First Christian Church.

The daughter of George Warren Leck and Sarah Lilly Clouse, she was born Jan. 6, 1910, in Mendota, Mo. She married Cecil Vere Logan. She was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing and dancing.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Pearson (Don Van Horn) of Urbandale; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel McConeghey of Newton.

Mrs. Logan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Clifford, Richard and an infant; and two grandchildren.
