Grace V. Hood, Former Newton Resident, Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Lawrence O. (Grace V.) Hood, 74, of 1001 Center Ave., Ottumwa, a former resident of Newton, were held Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa.

The Rev. Charles T. Rinker, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, conducted services. Burial was in the Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.

She died recently at the Ottumwa Hospital.

Survivors are two sons, Lawrence R. Hood of Troy, N.Y., and Merle J. Hood of Ottumwa, four daughters, Luella M. Capatani of Rock Island, Ill., Betty J. McGinley of Newton, Bernice Edinger of Watervliet, N.Y., and Sandra K. Hickman of Ottumwa; 20 grandchildren and six-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Minnie Guffey and Floma Boitnott, both of Newton; and a brother, Robert Clement of Newton.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

The daughter of Daniel R. and Ida Elizabeth Shaffer Clement, she was born May 7, 1904 in Jasper County.

She was married July 7, 1920 in des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, January 2, 1979.
