Annual Wood Picnic Is Held At Westwood Park
Reunion Takes Place in Newton Park Sunday, July 12

TOOL’S CHAPEL – The annual Wood picnic was held July 12, 1936 at Westwood Park, Newton.
After the feast of all good eats served near the noon hour our president, Walter Wood took charge for the afternoon’s entertainment, calling for the report of last year’s minutes which was read by the secretary, Mrs. John Wood, and were approved.
Officers
Reorganized for the coming year with the following officers elected: Aaron Wood of Monroe, honorary president; Eli Wood of near Reasnor, acting president; Walter Wood of Wall Lake, vice-president; Mrs. John Wood of near Monroe, secretary and treasurer.
It was decided to hold the picnic next year at the Maytag Park at Newton on the second Sunday in July.
Program
Letters from relatives who could not attend. A letter from the Reese family of Spokane, Wash., one from Mrs. Elmer Whitted of Colorado Springs and one from Mrs. Dovie Lavender of Nappanee, Ind., was read by Mrs. Pearl Gunsaulus.
Recitation – entitled “Betty At the Ball Game” was given by Phyllis Dingeman; song, “What Makes Life the Sweetest” was sung by Phyllis and Crystal Belle Dingeman; a number of selections were given on guitars and singing by Wayne and Clifton Tool.
Mrs. Dora Tool and George Tool and Mrs. Wilma Hendricks of near Reasnor and Mrs. Pearl Gunsaulus of Newton were chosen for program committee.
Frank Gunsaulus and Marvin Tool of Newton for arrangement committee.
Marriages
The secretary reported happenings since last years picnic. Among those events of importance were the marriages of Miss Frances Hoyt and Oris Waters of Newton April 11, 1936.
Miss Edna Mallson and Carl J. Romans of near Reasnor, were married Sept. 10, 1935.
Miss Jessie Romans and Albert Steinman of near Reasnor were married March 22, 1936.
Births
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Northcutt of Newton a son Larry Gene, Sept. 16, 1935.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clare Cross of Des Moines, a daughter, Cleo Fern, Jan. 1, 1936.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tool near Kellogg, a daughter, Harriet Marie, Feb. 25, 1936.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wood of Newton, a son, Richard Allen, March 13, 1936.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Reuban Hedberg of Boone, Ia., a son, Gerald Guy, May 16, 1936.
Deaths
Bert Romans of near Reasnor, died Sept. 1, 1935.
Mrs. Murel Romans Williams of Minneapolis, Minn.
Mrs. Esther Reese Warrell of Des Moines, died Jan. 28, 1936.
Amos Welchel of Angus, Ia., died April 13, 1936.
Wallace Romans of Des Moines died June 6, 1936.
Jesse Green of Boone, Ia., died Sept. 26, 1935.
Leroy O. Day of Wall Lake died Oct. 1, 1935.
Mrs. Frances Hoyt Waters of Newton died July 8, 1936.
Graduates
Neva Wood graduated from Wall Lake high school; Herwehe Tool from Monroe high school.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gunsaulus and children, Darlene, Deloris and James, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Robinson and Raymond, Robert Kennedy, Mrs. Gerald Northcutt, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wood and children, Harley jr., and Richard, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Armstrong and children, Harold, Gerald, Shirley, Donna, Kenneth and Billy, all of Newton.
Colfax

Visitors
Visitors were Miss Cecil Wheeler of near Galesburg, Miss Irma Ricabaugh of Monroe and Leonard Vander Velden near Monroe. At the close all enjoyed ice cream.
