Married. - On Wednesday, Sept. 18th, 1889, by Rev. Geo. B. Henry at the Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Mr. Richard A. Hanke and Miss Kate Scharf, both of this city. The union of these young people was an event in which a large circle of friends here take a lively interest, on account of the high position they occupy in Newton social circle.

Mr. Hanke is a promising young man.-senior member of the hardware firm of Hanke, Scharf & Co., - and is in every way worthy of the young lady whom he as "wooed and won."

The bride is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Scharf, was born in Newton and her entire life has been spent here, and she has ever ranked among the very best girls of which newton as become justly famous.

The young couple immediately on their return from Des Moines, went to their own home-the Belle Vaughan property-which had previously been furnished and prepared for their reception-and began housekeeping, like sensible married folks should. On Thursday evening the Newton Cornet Band gave them a delightful serenade. The young people start out in life together with the most flattering prospects for a bright and joyous future. ~ The Newton Journal, September 25, 1889.
