The descendents of the Fugard family held a reunion on the lawn, at the home of Mrs. M. W. Atwood, last Wednesday, September 13, 1899. About forty-five were present including old and young and to say that a good time was had would be telling it mild. Ball, trolley wire, football, and other games were indulged in by both the little and big folks. Cares and business were set aside for the day and a day of enjoyment was had by all present. A grand picnic dinner with spread on the lawn and was dispensed with full-grown appetites. All and in all it was a day of social enjoyment, and all separated feeling that they were glad that they were there. For a number of years those reunions were held annually, but as a number have moved away and others have gone to that long home, they have not held one before for some years. The first one was held at the home of George Fugard, in Prairie city, and in the year of 1872. ~ The Newton Journal, September 20, 1899.
