Married, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Eaton, of Kellogg Township, Jasper County, Ia., on Wednesday evening, August 21st, 1895, Mr. Alton Reynolds and Miss Addie Eaton, Rev. David Phillips officiating.

Precisely at 8 o’clock, the relatives and invited guests to the number of sixty-five or more assembled themselves in the parlor, to witness the above event. At ten minutes past eight, Miss Edith Blackwood at the instrument commenced the wedding march. Soon thereafter the officiating divise entered, followed by the maids of honor, Miss Laura Herring and Miss Cordia Burnsides, the groomsmen, Mr. Fred Eaton and Vic Reynolds, and the bride and groom. The parties took their respective places under a most beautiful arch draped with lace, flowers and smilax, where the solemn and impressive words were said that made the contracting parties one according to law.

The bride wore white silk, trimmed with braided fringe. Miss Burnsides wore white Henrietta; Miss Herring pink silk and the gentlemen the usual black. Congratulations being in order, their many friends gave them with an earnestness that betokens sincerity. The guests were then invited to seats and a most sumptuous repast was serviced to all present, after which a very pleasant evening was spent in social conversation, song and instrumental music. The bride was the recipient of many nice and useful presents from her many friends.

The bride’s mother, Mrs. Eaton, was not present, she having been called the previous evening by telegram, to Davenport, to the bed-side of her only sister, Mrs. Oden who was dying. Mrs. Eaton’s warm-heartedness and social nature were missed and the sympathy for her in her sad errand by her many friends present caused a tinge of sadness. But the hospitality of Mr. Eaton and family made all feel welcome and at home, and a more pleasant event seldom occurs than did that evening. At a late hour the guests departed for their respective homes wishing the worthy couple God speed along life’s journey.

The mother of the groom, Mrs. J W. Reynolds, agave a reception at her home in Buena Vista Township on Thursday, at 2 p.m., and invited a number of friends to enjoy the occasion with her. Those present report a very pleasant time. That evening the old schoolmates of Altoo-both girls and boys—called and gave him and his bride a “serenade” from bells, tin pans and song, for which Alton set up the ice cream and cigars and entertained them most royally.

The husband and Wife will settle down to practical life on the Harry Van Epp’s farm, where they will be at home to their friends after the 9th inst. “A Guest” ~ The Newton Journal, September 4, 1895.
