A Noble Girl Won.

Among all the happy wedding parties which have gathered in Newton during the past few weeks it would be difficult to find a more delightful one than that which gathered at the home of Mrs. Josephine Wing on last Wednesday evening, and among all the brides who have gone from Newton home, there have gone none more dearly beloved and more highly esteemed for her true, noble womanhood than Miss Emma Wing, who on that evening gave her hand in marriage to Rev. James H. Thompson. For some time this event has been looked forward to, and if kindly interest and hearty expressions of good wishes can influence their lot, the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson will be as sunny and perfect as was their wedding day.

The house was beautifully decorated with plants and autumn leaves, and was comfortably filled with the relative and intimate friends of the bride.

Miss Leonetta Jones, of Ames, presided at the piano, and the ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Crippen, presiding elder of the Marshalltown District of the Upper Iowa Conference, assisted by revs. Phillips and Cowan, of Newton. At the close of the ceremony hearty congratulation were offered by all the guests, after which a dainty supper was served and the evening spent in social enjoyment.

The bride is one of our best known Newton girls. For several years she was a successful teacher in this county, and for the past five years has been engaged in nursing and hospital work, most of the time in the east. Her sunny disposition and warm, sympathetic nature has made for her friends wherever she is known, and she is well fitted in every way to be a “helpmeet” to her husband in his pastoral work.

Mr. Thompson is a comparative stranger among us, but if his good judgment in selecting a wife can be taken as an index to his character, he certainly is not wanting in the qualities which go to make up a noble manhood. During the past year he has been pastor of the Methodist church at Ryan, this state, and has been very successful in his ministerial work.

On Friday evening a number of friends wishing an opportunity to extend congratulations and say goodbye before Mr. and Mrs. Thompson took their leave, pleasantly surprised them by gathering in and spending the evening with them. Through thoroughly surprised, the host and hostess proved themselves delightful entertainers and it was with reluctance that the good byes were finally said and the merry evening closed.

Mr. and Mrs. Thompson left on last Saturday for Mason City, where they will attend the Upper Iowa Conference, now in session, and be assigned to their field of work for the coming year. That their lines may fall in “pleasant places” is certainly the wish of their many friends. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Journal, 10-9-1895.
