Mattie Kerr's Wedding

The Helena Independent of Dec. 30, gives the following particulars of the wedding of Miss Mattie Kerr:

A quiet, yet withal a very pretty and happy wedding took place on Christmas day on Harrison Avenue, at the home of Mrs. Kerr, the bride's mother. The ceremony took place at high noon, in the front parlor, which was prettily decorated for the event with Christmas holly, cedar and smilax. Carnations, white and crimson, agave added color to the decorations. At exactly 12, the Rev. Mr. Crooker entered, followed by the bride and groom, Miss Marthena Kerr and William G. Gosslin. The ceremony was short, but very beautiful and impressive, and was witnessed by only a few of the relatives and friends-Mr. and Mrs. Craven, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Kerr, Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. Harrah, Mr. and Mrs. Crowell, and Messrs. Macomber, of Spokane, and Jenkins, of Tacoma.

The bride's dress was of brown cloth, interwoven with a pale blue almost invisible; it was her going away gown, and she looked even more sweet in it than brides proverbially do. Afterward it was completed by a brown hat with a bird, gloves to match and a golf cape. After the heartiest of congratulations, a dainty wedding breakfast was served in the dining room; the table was also trimmed with trailing smilax, interwoven with red carnations. Many very pretty and valuable gifts were received. The bride and groom left the same afternoon via the Union Pacific for Salt Lake, extending their wedding trip to Mexico before returning. They will be at home in Tacoma after Feb. 1. They have the good wishes of scores of friends whom the bride has made in the city and vicinity. ~ The Newton Journal, 9-6-1895.
