Birthday Surprise. - The children of Mr. Fred Achtemeier agave their father a pleasant and genuine surprise on the 7th inst., it being this 70th birthday. They went by appointment and made a surprise about 11:30 a.m. Those present were: Charles Achtemeier, Wm. Achtemeier and family, Mrs. Chas. Jasper, Mrs. Louis Fehielsen, of Boone, Iowa, and Mr. Henry Achtemeier, of Nebraska. Mr. Fred Achtemeier, of Nebraska, was the only one of the children not present. A number of the neighbors made up a goodly company. After several hours of genial enjoyment, the happy throng separated, leaving a number of presents as mementos of the happy occasion. ~ The Newton Journal 11-20-1889.
