Dedication of Baptist Church at Metz, Iowa

Crowds are in Attendance and no Contribution is asked for the Building

The new Baptist church at Metz was dedicated Sunday.

No collection was taken to pay off any debt on the building because it was already clear of debt.

The house was packed to the limit and there was great rejoicing among the members and all their friends who had come from far and near for the dedication services which began Saturday night when S. E. Wilcox D. D., of Des Moines made an excellent address to a crowded room.

Sunday at 10:30 a.m. the dedicatory sermon was preached by Rev. Wilcox. His theme was “A Glorious Church.” The prayer was made by Rev. A. E. Clemess of Seymour, Iowa.

At noon a basket dinner was enjoyed on the lawn when the generous, hospitable people of Metz fed two hundred.

Henry Williams D. D., of Des Moines spoke in the afternoon. He is secretary of the Baptist foreign missionary society for Iowa.

At the evening service the speaker was Mr. Young, pastor of the previous United Brethern Organization. Also Dr. J. P. Mathers of Yarmouth, who visited Metz during the revival in December, gave words of appreciation and advice.

It was a great day for the little village and the people who, with the help of Rev. N. G. Thomas of this city, have in remarkably quick time carried out plans and erected the new church home dedicating it free from debt.

Families made it an occasion of reunions, visitors came from Burlington, Des Moines, some came from Dakota and people were there from many of the congregation with their pastor went to Metz and assisted their new sister church and rejoiced with them on this occasion.

The church people at Metz presented a gift of money to Rev. Thomas and also to the Rev. Young thus showing in a small way their great love and esteem for both ministers. ~ The Newton Journal, Wednesday, June 7, 1911.
