Malaka Wedding Bells – On Wednesday afternoon, June 30, at 4 o’clock the “wedding bells ran merrily” at St. Johns Evangelical Church, at Horn, in honor of the union of two of Jasper County’s most worthy young people, Rev. F. T. Schnathorst and Miss Lottie Bergman. The beautiful rites were solemnized by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Hubschmann, witnessed by a large number of invited friends. Miss Maggie Schnathorst acted as bridesmaid and Mr. Adolph Bergman as best man. The wedding party entered the church at the appointed hour, keeping step to the music of a grand wedding march from the organ by Miss Anna Maciejewskie, and after the ceremony which united forever the destinies of these two young people, and a short season of congratulations, a reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bergman-the bride’s parents, attended by about one hundred and fifty friends and relatives. A sumptuous supper was served and the evening passed most joyously.

The bride’s dress was of cream colored surrah silk, with oriental lace and white roses. That of the bridesmaid, cream swiss, oriental lace and natural flowers. “Handsome and beautiful” briefly describes their appearance. The gentlemen wore the customary black and presented the gentlemanly dignity which is always expected from the groom and his attendant.

After the festivities of the evening had concluded, in company with their Newton guests, the bride and groom came to Newton and took the night train for Chicago, and after a visit there and among friends in Wisconsin, they will go to St. Louis where Mr. Schnathorst has a call to the pastorate of a fine Evangelical church. They will be followed by the best wishes of hosts of friends here among whom they have been so justly popular.
