67th Wedding Anniversary is Observed
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Pease Pass Another Unusual Anniversary (photo included)
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh A. Pease of this city, observed their 67th wedding anniversary quietly in their home in this city, Monday, February 27th, 1933.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Pease have enjoyed fairly good health this winter and are enjoying life and interested in present day events as much as any one else. Mr. Pease is not as strong physically as he would like to be, yet is able to get about the house.
Many changes have taken place since this couple was married at Newton, February 27, 1866. At that time they drove to Newton in a buggy and on the return trip were forced to secure a wagon in order to get across the rivers, creeks and swamps that were out of their banks and still rising.
For the past twenty-five years Mr. and Mrs. Pease have lived in Colfax, but before moving to town they had spent most of their life on the Pease homestead just north of town, now occupied by their son, Frank G. Pease.
Mr. Pease is the only surviving Civil War veteran living in Colfax or this community, having served during the war with the 40th Iowa Infantry for three years.
The host of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Pease are expressing congratulations and hoping that they may live to celebrate and enjoy the celebration of their diamond or 75th wedding anniversary.
