Metz

Mr. Jerry Fitzgerald who makes his home with his son, Elmer, in Marshalltown, is back to his old home neighborhood and home. Many relatives and friends are enjoying his visit.

Mrs. Chas. Thompson is visiting with Harry Thompson and family at Sully.

Andrew Engle left Thursday for Topeka, Kansas, on business. He will be gone for some time.

Lewis Moffitt, who has been so dangerously ill at his home north of Metz, is improving rapidly in the past few days. His many friends have been anxious over his condition.

Quite a number from Colfax and Newton have been on the river and at the club house the last few warm days hunting but it is just a little early it seems for the ducks.

Will Walker who lives just across the river is reported ill with quinsy.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trimble returned to their home in Wayne county on Friday after a splendid visit with relatives and friends in Metz and Newton vicinity.

Mrs. Rome Clement and son from northwest of Colfax, visited this week with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Clement.

The Sprinkle children are ill at their home in Metz with the mumps. We hope they will soon be alright again.

Percy Engle came home Sunday. He has been spending the week with his brother, James Engle at their nice home near Killduff.

On account of illness of our minister there was no preaching at Metz Sabbath morning or evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Archie Engle visited over Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Engle.

George Hitchler entertained his children and a few neighbors and friends in honor of the anniversary of his birthday at his home Sunday.

The next meeting will be with Mrs. O. C. Callison on March 17th. [sic - I think should have been printed after the next item.]

The Daughters of Ceres met with Mrs. Eva Cannon on Thursday of last week. Not all members were present but all who were enjoyed the first program given by the club. Dinner was served at the usual hour. ~ The Newton Journal (Newton, Iowa), Wednesday, March 9, 1910, page 2, column 2.
