BURNS, ELIAS
Farmer; Sec. 36; P. O. Prairie City; born in Vermont in 1833; came to Jasper Co. in 1868; has 160 acres of land, valued at $45 per acre. Married Sarah BURNS in 1866; she was born in the State of New York in 1849. They have three children - Bailey, Mira and Buel. Is School Director. Democratic. Enlisted in the 2d Vt. V. I., Co. E., Capt. Bigsby; took part at Fredericksburg; then transferred to Veteran Reserve July 1, 1863, doing guard duty, escorting recruits, hospital duty, etc., until mustered out July 31, 1865. ~ "Washington Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
